On February 27, 2023, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi attended the reception marking the 179th anniversary of national independence of the Dominican Republic hosted by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in China and delivered remarks.

Qiu Xiaoqi, on behalf of the Chinese government, congratulated the Dominican Republic on its 179th anniversary of national independence, and said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, bilateral relations have developed rapidly and brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Dominican Republic, and China is ready to work with the Dominican Republic to push bilateral relations to new levels under the guidance of the two heads of state.

Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to China Briunny Garabito Segura thanked China for its support to the country in fighting the pandemic and promoting economic and social development, and noted that the Dominican Republic is ready to take the 5th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and China as an opportunity to deepen practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields and further substantiate bilateral relations.
