On April 17, the Chinese Embassy in Dominica celebrated the 2026 International Chinese Language Day and held the award ceremony of the second Dominica-China Friendship Association Art Competition. H.E.Chu Maoming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and his wife, along with Mr. Robert Guiste, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence, Ms. Queen Thomas, President of the Dominica-China Friendship Association, and teachers and students from six schools joined the celebration. The event was also lived by mainstream media.

In his remarks, Ambassador Chu described the Chinese language as a golden key to understanding Chinese civilization and a bridge for people-to-people connection between China and other countries. He noted that the painting competition serves as an important platform for young people to showcase their artistic talents and to highlight the friendship between the two nations. He also expressed his hope that Dominican youth would continue to share messages of friendship through language and art, injecting youthful energy into bilateral relations.

The event combined language learning, artistic creation, and sports. Besides the wonderful performances given by students from the Confucius Classroom, guests also enthusiastically took part in Hanfu photo sessions, shuttlecock kicking, and table tennis, while calligraphy lovers explored the beauty of Chinese characters with brush and ink.
