On 16 April 2026, Her Excellency Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, attended the breakfast meeting hosted by Mr. Felix Stubbs, Chairman of the Bahamas National Development Plan Steering Committee and a business leader. Also in attendance were Father James Palacious, former Archdeacon of the Anglican Diocese; H.E. Leon Williams, Bahamian Ambassador to the International Telecommunication Union; Mr. Jeffrey Beckles, former CEO of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Howard Newbold, former Director General of the Ministry of Education; Dr. Bernard Young, former Reform Manager at Texaco, Michigan, USA; and H.E. Professor Gilbert Morris, Vice Chancellor of the Bahamas Diplomatic Institute.

Ambassador Yan shared China’s experience in guiding economic and social development through medium- and long-term planning. She emphasized that the scientific formulation and continued implementation of Five-Year Plans constitute a key element of “China's Effective Governance.” She noted that certainty is increasingly becoming a scarce resource globally, and the steady progress of Chinese modernization makes China a major contributor to global economic growth and a stabilizing anchor for the world economy. She reassured that China will remain firmly committed to advancing high-quality development and high-level opening-up.

The Bahamian side commended that China’s Five-Year Plans, characterized by strategic foresight, policy continuity, and strong implementation capacity, offer helpful reference for developing countries. Ideas on enhancing Bahamas-China cooperation were discussed as it is believed that China’s comprehensive development will bring more opportunities to the world and promote common prosperity among Global South countries.
The meeting was conducted in a warm and friendly atmosphere, with extensive and in-depth exchanges.
