Chinese Weiqi Association
On November 1, 2025, the 7th Latin American Go Congress – “Quzhou Lanke Cup”, co-hosted by the Ibero American Go Federation and Alianza Ecuatoriana de Go, officially opened in Quito, Ecuador. As a core force in promoting long-term Weiqi cultural exchanges between China and Latin America, the Chinese Weiqi Association, together with the CPC Quzhou Municipal Committee and Quzhou Municipal People's Government of Zhejiang Province, has carried out in-depth cooperation with the Ibero American Go Federation. Building on the solid achievements of the China-Latin America strategic cooperation in Weiqi, it participates deeply in this congress, injecting new momentum from the world of Weiqi into deepening China-Latin America people-to-people exchanges and advancing the building of a China-Latin America Community with a Shared Future.
For two consecutive years from 2024 to 2025, the "Quzhou Lanke Cup" Latin American Go Congress has been included in the list of sub-forum activities of the "China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Forum" by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, becoming an important platform for promoting China-Latin America people-to-people exchanges. This year, the congress has attracted more than 100 Weiqi enthusiasts from about 12 countries and regions across South America, North America and Asia. During the event, five continental-level Weiqi tournaments covering diverse groups will be held intensively, including the 25th Ibero American Open Go Championship, the Final of the 9th Latin American Weiqi Team Championship, the 8th Ibero American Pair Go Championship, the 7th Latin American Youth Go Championship, and the 2nd Latin American Female Championship. The increasingly comprehensive competition system vividly reflects the vigorous growth of Weiqi in Latin America. In addition, activities such as professional players' game reviews, lectures and simultaneous games will be held during the congress.
In 2021, the Chinese Weiqi Association, together with the Ibero American Go Federation and its 13 member countries, signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Taking key events such as the Latin American Go Congress and the Latin American Weiqi Tour as the starting point, and by joining forces with the Quzhou City, it has built "Lanke"—a thousand-year-old cultural symbol of Weiqi—into an important carrier for the international dissemination of fine traditional Chinese culture. By establishing the "Quzhou Lanke Cup" series of competitions brands and building cultural exchange platforms, it has provided Latin American Weiqi players with access to high-level international tournaments. Through financial support, technical assistance and other ways, it has helped Latin America improve the Weiqi promotion system, fostering the growth of local Weiqi population and the improvement of their skills. These initiatives have not only laid a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between China and Latin America in the field of Weiqi, but also demonstrated positive actions in deepening China-Latin America people-to-people exchanges and serving the overall situation of the China-Latin America comprehensive strategic partnership.
In the future, the Chinese Weiqi Association will continue to take Quzhou City as an important fulcrum, and carry out more practical cooperation with the Ibero American Go Federation, such as player exchanges, youth Weiqi training and Weiqi cultural exhibitions, so as to promote the millennium-old Weiqi culture to radiate new vitality in international exchanges. While promoting the international dissemination of fine traditional Chinese culture, it will further make Weiqi a "bond" for China-Latin America people-to-people friendship, and continuously contribute Weiqi's strength to builde an equal, mutually beneficial, innovative, open and people-centered China-Latin America Community with a Shared Future.
