An online forum began on Tuesday to promote the exchange of poverty reduction know-how between China, Latin America and the Caribbean countries against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first CELAC-China Forum on Poverty Reduction and Development was held by the National Rural Revitalization Administration, which was created earlier this year to facilitate the national rural vitalization strategy, alongside the International Poverty Reduction Center in China.

The theme of the forum was CELAC-China Dialogue on Poverty Reduction and Development: Policies and Practices.

The event was attended by more than 50 people, including government officials from China, Mexico and other member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, also known as CELAC. Attendees also included scholars, businesspeople and media representatives.

Xu Jianmin, head of the NRRA's general affairs department, addressed the opening ceremony, alongside Chen Luning, deputy head of the Latin American and Caribbean affairs department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Efraín Guadarrama, national coordinator of Mexico to CELAC and Delia Rivera Castro, director of International Relations of the Secretariat of Welfare of Mexico.

A media release by the IPRCC said it was important to further exchange during the pandemic.

It added that participants pledged to cooperate on poverty reduction and to make full use of the forum to bolster mutual understanding and trust, and that joint efforts would be made to mitigate the pandemic's impact and create a shared future for China, Latin America and the Caribbean community.
