Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday sent a congratulatory message to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on the 200th anniversary of victory in the Mexican War of Independence. Xi expressed China's sincere wishes for the country to make greater progress in its national development.

In the message, Xi said that Mexico is an important Latin American country that enjoys a long history and splendid civilization. The Mexican people have made remarkable achievements during their process of exploring a development path that suits Mexico's national conditions, he said.

Xi noted that both China and Mexico are developing countries and share broad common interests. In the face of changes unseen in a century and the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have joined hands and supported each other to overcome the current difficulties, which has deepened their friendship, he said.

The Chinese president said that he highly values developing the China-Mexico relationship and stands ready to work with his Mexican counterpart to deepen mutual political trust, promote mutually beneficial cooperation and bring bilateral ties to a new level so as to benefit the two countries and their peoples.

As Lopez Obrador is currently promoting new development reforms, China sincerely wishes Mexico new and greater achievements in the course of its national construction, Xi said.

The Mexican War of Independence began in 1810 as an authentic movement among oppressed indigenous Mexicans to throw off the shackles of the tyrannical Spanish aristocracy.
