China-Latin America and the Caribbean Business Summit

  China-Latin America and the Caribbean Business Summit (hereinafter referred to as “China-LAC Business Summit”) is the first institutionalized platform China has established to promote economic and trade cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean region. It was founded in November, 2007 by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and was written into the Policy Document of the Chinese Government toward Latin America and the Caribbean region released in November, 2008. At the first Ministerial Meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (China-CELAC Forum), China and the LAC side jointly made a Plan for Cooperation between China and Latin American and the Caribbean States (2015-2019), which incorporated China-LAC Business Summit as one in a professional field under the framework of China-CELAC Forum. The Summit is held annually on a rotation basis between China and LAC states, having already been held eight times.

  The summits held have won high interests and active participation of political and business communities of China and LAC states, attended by 30 LAC countries and regions, and with the scale keeping expanding and influence growing. The ninth China-LAC Summit will be held in Guadalajara , Jalisco , Mexico on October 13th and 14th, 2015, which will be the first being held after the formal establishment of China-CELAC Forum and hosting of its first Ministerial Meeting.

  China-LAC Summit gives top priority to the interests of the business communities of China and LAC, and invites government leaders, well-known experts, representatives of international organizations and financial institutions and business leaders of various sectors for in-depth discussions on China-LAC trade and investment policies and market opportunities, through which agreements on many business cooperation projects have been reached. The first up to the eighth China-LAC Summit have been held successively in Santiago, capital city of Chile, China’s Harbin city, Bogota, capital city of Columbia, China’s Chengdu city, Lima, capital city of Peru, China’s Hangzhou city, San José, capital city of Costa Rica, and China’s Changsha city, attended respectively by Chinese leaders including then Vice Chairman Hua Jianmin and Vice Chairman Zhou Tienong of the NPC Standing Committee, Vice Chairman Liu Xiaofeng and Vice Chairman Wang Qinmin of then CPPCC National Committee, then Vice Chairman Abulaiti Abudurexiti, Vice Chairman Bai Lichen and Vice Chairman Li Meng of the CPPCC National Committee, then Presidents of Chile, Columbia, Peru and Costa Rica, CCPIT President Jiang Zengwei, then CCPIT President Wan Jifei, CCPIT Vice President Zhang Wei, CCPIT Vice President Yu Ping.
