Morocco, EU to negotiate new fisheries deal
2018/04/20

RABAT, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Morocco said Thursday that it will negotiate a new fisheries partnership protocol with the European Union (EU) in capital Rabat on Friday.

The announcement was made by Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Waters and Forests Aziz Akhannouch, after a meeting with head of the EU delegation in the Moroccan capital.

In a statement to the press, Akhannouch expressed hope to see negotiations between Morocco and the EU as soon as possible, noting that the two parties will draw on three decades of successful cooperations in this strategic area during the negotiations.

The current fisheries agreement between the two sides will expire next July.

The first fisheries agreement concluded between the EU and Morocco dates back to 1995.
