SAO PAULO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and one injured on Monday when logs rolled off a truck and crushed a car on a highway in Brazil's southern state of Parana, police said.

The morning accident occurred on highway BR376 in the municipality of Tibagi, when the truck carrying wood logs for Brazilian pulp company Klabin made a sharp turn to avoid a head-on collision and overturned, according to a spokesperson for the Federal Highway Police.

The cargo fell on top of a car belonging to the mayor's office of the neighboring city of Ortigueira, which was transporting people to another city for retirement procedures.

Four of the five people in the car died and the injured survivor was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the truck suffered no injuries, the spokesperson told a local television station.
