SANTIAGO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chile on Monday registered less than 1,000 new daily cases of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, after three days of over 1,000 cases a day.

According to the Health Ministry, tests detected 996 cases, raising the accumulated total to 1,663,383 since the onset of the pandemic in the South American country.

In the same 24 hours, seven more people died of the disease, pushing the pandemic death toll to 37,571.

"To prevent a setback, we must continue taking care of ourselves, despite being vaccinated and getting a booster shot," Health Minister Enrique Paris said at a press conference.

"Living in COVID mode means being aware that we can still infect and be infected. It is to enjoy, but always with the necessary precautions," he added.

In turn, Deputy Health Minister Paula Daza said, "I have no choice but to ask that you get vaccinated. The more we are vaccinated, the less risk of spreading the virus and the less risk of more people being hospitalized."
