2016-04-25 17:42

The Second China-LAC Infrastructure Cooperation Forum will be held in Macao on June 2nd and 3rd. The Forum will be hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and sponsored by China International Contractors Association. Governments, industrial organizations, financial institutions, consulting and intermediary agencies, project companies and businesses related to the industrial chain from China and Latin American countries will conduct in-depth discussions on how to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides in the relevant areas focusing on the theme of “building a new future of infrastructure and production capacity cooperation together between China and LAC countries”.

Infrastructure construction cooperation between China and Latin American countries has become one of the areas with biggest development potential in recent years. At the first Ministerial Meeting of China-CELAC Forum held in January, 2015, China proposed the establishment of China-LAC Infrastructure Cooperation Forum. The Forum shall be held once a year concurrently with the International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum. The first China-LAC Infrastructure Cooperation Forum held on June 4th and 5th, 2015,achieved a full success.

The preparations for the second China-LAC Infrastructure Cooperation Forum are proceeding well. Altogether 13 vice-ministers and higher-level officials from 8 LAC countries including Brazil and Argentina have confirmed their intention to attend the Forum.

Due to the slow global economic recovery, some countries in Latin America are facing difficulties in their economies, affected by the sharp decline of major commodity prices and reduction of foreign investment. Against such a backdrop, the holding of the second China-LAC Infrastructure Cooperation Forum will help to deepen and strengthen cooperation between the two sides in related fields, and make positive contribution to creating jobs and improving infrastructure and export competitiveness of Latin American countries, and to developing new areas for global economic growth.
